  • AGRICULTURAL COLONY OF MOUNT ST BERNARD ABBEY REFORMATORY SCHOOL FOR ROMAN CATHOLIC BOYS, WHITWICK, NR COALVILLE, LOUGHBOROUGH, LEICESTERSHIRE.
Founded 6th February 1856.  Certified 13th May 1856.  Cessation of certificate or closure as such in 1881 when it became an Industrial School (part of a Trappist Monastery) in a new building.  Used pro-tem in 1883-884 to house boys from the CLARENCE REFORMATORY SCHOOL SHIP.  Its troubled history is described by Bernard Elliott in Leicestershire Archaeological Society Journal, Vol. LI (1878), pp 52-53.

1869 - Superintendent Mr Thomas Carroll and his wife.

1872 - Superintendent Mr Thomas Carroll; schoolmasters Messrs. McCarthy and Harrington.  The inspector comments as follows - I regret to add that Mr Carroll is about to leave the institution, having accepted the agency of Mr. De Lisle's estate.
