In 1900 the County Council took over the management of the school on the generous terms offered by its venerable founder, Mr J.C. Mansel Pleydell.
A permanent memorial, was placed over the entrance to the school, to Mr J.C. Mansel Pleydell to whom the existence and success of the school was so largely due.
